From 2016-2017 Dr. Jobin was the principal investigator on a large community-led research project for the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA). She was part of a team that prepared a 27,400-word final research report that included a guiding governance framework, consultation results, proposed revised governance organizational structures, and overall recommendations. Together, they also developed a plain-language report that the MNA houses on its self-government website. This project contributed significantly to Indigenous community-led research methods and practices and illustrates how university research can provide demonstrable benefits to an Indigenous community. It also had major research impacts for the MNA. The project and report provided foundational information and recommendations used by the MNA to move on with its self-government aspirations. On June 27, 2019, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) signed the first-ever self-government agreement between the Government of Canada and a Métis government.
